Man United told to turn to stars for transfer advice after 'ridiculous' development - pundit

Man United would be better off consulting the players on transfers than the people responsible for bringing Ralf Rangnick to Old Trafford.

That is the view of ex-Aston Villa and England forward Gabby Agbonlahor, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Rangnick’s “ridiculous” time at Man United.

The club confirmed on Sunday (29 May) that the 64-year-old will not be taking up his consultancy role after finishing his spell as interim manager.

He originally took over from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in November last year (2021) until the end of the season with the agreement that he would then take up a two-year consultancy.

“This is why I’ve got no problems with players having a say with transfers and stuff like [Kylian] Mbappe,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“There are people out there at these big clubs who do not make the right decisions, like at Man United. Whose idea was it to bring in Rangnick? They deserve to be sacked.

“As a player looking in, he looked like a supply teacher who comes into your class at school and does the bare minimum because they don’t know where you are with what you are studying so they do the basic stuff,

“That’s what Rangnick looked like. A supply teacher who they had no respect for, who didn’t plan, didn’t have any presence about him.

“For him to stay on and have anything to do with transfers would have been ridiculous.”

Instead of continuing at United, Rangnick has begun his work as the manager of the Austria national side.

Before his move to the Premier League, the German was the manager of sports and development for Lokomotiv Moscow.
