Man United’s stance on Marcus Rashford return revealed – ‘keep an eye on this’

Man United would be open to Marcus Rashford’s return if he can put his issues behind him at Aston Villa, according to their former chief scout.

Mick Brown, who spent over a decade at Old Trafford during the club’s most successful period and remains very well-connected there, exclusively told Football Insider that the 27-year-old must work hard to prove United wrong.

However, if he does not step up his performances both on and off the pitch under Unai Emery, the club will look for a more permanent solution to his future.

This comes after Brown previously told Football Insider that Rashford must meet the lofty standards set by Emery if he wants to succeed at Villa Park.

Concerns at Old Trafford and a public bust-up with Ruben Amorim came as a result of his apparent lack of effort and low performance level in training.

After joining Villa on loan, he will be given a chance to prove his parent club wrong, but if the issues persist then his long-term future at Old Trafford will be thrown away.

Marcus Rashford to decide Man United future while at Aston Villa

As things stand, it seems United would be open to a potential reunion in the summer and to resolve the difference between Rashford and Amorim after a period away.

However, Brown, who has a wealth of experience working closely with players at the top level and also spent time as a scout at Villa Park, insisted that any situation will depend on the forward’s attitude, labelling the move “one to watch” ahead of the summer.

It’s going to be interesting,” he told Football Insider.

“If he hits the ground running at Villa, starts scoring goals and playing well, which there’s no reason why he shouldn’t because he’s a quality player, then what?

“It begs the question what his next steps will be after his loan spell.

“He’s still a Manchester United player, he has to come back at the end of the season.

“So then what changes? I think they’d be open to his return if his performances and attitude improve.

“He has to prove that he will work hard to come back into the team – if that’s what he wants.

“But if he doesn’t do it at Villa, United will be proven right in that he is the problem in this situation.

“Then, perhaps they look to move him on permanently because that situation isn’t going to work for either of them.

“It’s going to be one to keep an eye on in the summer.”

Significant update on Alejandro Garnacho future emerges

Another player who was heavily linked to leaving Old Trafford during the January transfer window was Alejandro Garnacho amid concerns about their financial situation.

However, Brown told Football Insider on 7 February that the club are pleased to have retained his services after he has stepped up his performances in training.

Amorim is also said to be pleased that the 20-year-old did not leave the club given the current lack of depth in the attacking areas of his squad.

Garnacho had been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea or Napoli throughout the window, but remained at Man United following Rashford’s departure.
