Tottenham should strike while the iron is hot after Ronald Koeman offered an ultimatum to Ross Barkley.
The Everton boss told the 23-year-old star to either sign a new contract or face being sold as he enters the final year of his current deal next season.
The Sun reported that Mauricio Pochettino was eyeing up a summer swoop for Barkley as he looks to add depth to his midfield, and in light of Koeman’s recent comments, it’s time for Spurs to make a bid.
At the moment the decision is probably quite simple for Barkley – he can just sign a new deal and get on with things.
But until there is an offer on the table from another club he probably won’t even think about playing elsewhere.
Pochettino has done a lot for English football in his three years at White Hart Lane by nurturing young players and giving them the chance of first-team football week in, week out.
Barkley’s getting that at Everton but he is not going to win any silverware at Goodison Park and that is exactly why he should move to Tottenham.
The north London club are on the brink of great things and signing a player like the Everton midfielder could really take them to the next level.
Pochettino will probably have a lot of money to play with in the summer and, in light of Koeman’s comments, he should start trying to turn Barkley’s head now, before it’s too late.
Under Pochettino, Barkley could take his game – and career – to the next level, and Tottenham could move one step closer to their first Premier League title.
