Jeremy Doku responds to Amadou Onana message amid Man City uncertainty

Manchester City’s Jeremy Doku has responded to a message shared by Aston Villa midfielder and Belgium teammate Amadou Onana.

The Premier League duo were both named in Belgium’s starting lineup as Rudi Garcia’s men defeated Wales 4-3 in a World Cup qualifier on Monday, 9 June.

Doku’s goal on 27 minutes put his side 3-0 up against Craig Bellamy’s side on 27 minutes, but Wales managed to claw the scoreline back to 3-3.

Kevin De Bruyne’s goal eventually sealed all three points for Belgium when the 33-year-old successfully met a cross from Aston Villa midfielder Youri Tielemans.

Man City will want more from Doku next season

Doku has proven he can be a real asset for Pep Guardiola’s side since joining from French Ligue 1 side Rennes in 2023, thanks to his direct dribbling style.

However, in both 2023/24 and 2024/25, the Belgium international scored just three goals in 29 Premier League appearances, showing that there is clear room for improvement in his game when it comes to end product.

The fact that Man City have signed Rayan Cherki shows that Guardiola is hungry for more threat in wide areas after the 21-year-old scored 12 goals and created 20 assists across all competitions for Lyon next season.

Cherki’s signature could also demonstrate that the North West club want to see Doku scoring more goals and making more assists as he approaches his third season at the Etihad Stadium.

The Belgium international should be keen to make a big impact at this summer’s Club World Cup.
