Manchester City: Jeremy Doku hailed by Belgian media for ‘outstanding’ display vs USA, he wowed the crowd
Manchester City winger Jeremy Doku has found himself in the spotlight once again after Belgium’s 5-2 win over the USA on Saturday night.
The Red Devils travelled to Atlanta to take on the co-hosts of this summer’s World Cup, and they came away with a resounding victory, with Aston Villa’s Amadou Onana getting on the scoresheet with his team’s second goal.
Doku failed to register a goal or an assist during his 70 minutes on the pitch, but he played a crucial role to help Rudi Garcia’s team come from a goal down to claim victory in the friendly.
Belgium have been stepping up their preparations ahead of the upcoming World Cup, and the rave reviews from the media have suggested that Doku was at his scintillating best once again.
Manchester City meet Liverpool in the FA Cup upon the conclusion of the international break, and they will be hoping that Doku can continue his fine form and help them progress towards a second domestic trophy of the campaign.

Doku is on course to record his best-ever season in City colours in terms of goal involvements, as he is now just one strike away from matching his total from each of the last two campaigns.
The wideman has taken on increased responsibility for Pep Guardiola’s side in 2025-26, and that has also been the case for his national team, as he starred in their emphatic victory this weekend.
| Stats | Doku Total |
| Minutes | 70 |
| Accurate Passes | 25/33 (76%) |
| Chances Created | 3 |
| Shots on Target | 2 |
| Successful Dribbles | 3/8 (38%) |
| Duels Won | 7/14 (50%) |
Doku started the game on the left flank and created three chances for his teammates during his 70 minutes on the pitch, while also recording three successful dribbles.
He may have left the pitch without directly contributing to a goal, but that did little to downplay the quality of his performance in the eyes of the Belgian media.
HLN handed the 23-year-old an 8/10 match rating, while adding that he brought the crowd “into ecstasy” at times with his “explosive” dribbling.
Voetbal Primeur did not provide a rating for the City star, but instead chose to label his performance as “outstanding,” while suggesting that he was at the heart of his team’s creativity.
Doku’s injury record is a concern for Man City
Football Insider revealed at the end of January that City decided not to sell Omar Marmoush during the winter window, as a result of Doku’s ongoing injury struggles.
The Egyptian forward was heavily linked with an exit from the Etihad Stadium throughout the window, but ultimately stayed put, with his teammate’s fitness causing concern once again.
Doku has already missed 10 games through injury for the Citizens so far this season, as per Transfermarkt, having also racked up the same number last term.
Guardiola and Co. will be desperately hoping that the injury problems do not continue to harm Doku as he develops, or it could risk damaging what is quickly becoming a very promising career.
