‘Man United backed to seal shock Marc Guehi deal amid Liverpool interest’

Manchester United are facing a vital transfer window as Ruben Amorim looks to strengthen his squad across all areas.

After guiding the Red Devils to a lowly Premier League finish last term, Amorim is already under pressure at Old Trafford.

The North West side’s desire to improve has been epitomised by the signings of Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, who enjoyed successful seasons at Brentford and Wolves, respectively, last term.

Meanwhile, Manchester United are keen on Benjamin Sesko as Amorim vies to add a new striker to his ranks.

Alongside their attacking woes, Manchester United must also strengthen their defence to enjoy greater success in the Premier League next term.

Last year’s summer signing, Matthijs de Ligt, was a disappointing addition to Amorim’s backline, having previously shown his class for former clubs Ajax, Juventus, and Bayern Munich,

Meanwhile, fellow centre-back Lisandro Martinez is injury-prone and has not featured in the Premier League since February.

Speaking about the Red Devils live on talkSPORT [31 July], Alan Pardew said: “I think they should go and get (Marc) Guehi out of Crystal Palace. He plays central, he plays left side, he could be the captain, he’s a great leader.

“He’s in the last year of his contract. He is available, that’s who I would be going for because I genuinely feel they need an assured centre-back they can really put their hat on back there.

“Martinez obviously (has) injuries, (and Harry) Maguire. But Guehi’s a different level.”

Meanwhile, Football Insider have exclusively revealed that Liverpool still have concrete interest in Guehi, as Arne Slot continues to strengthen the reigning Premier League champions.

Guehi will not want Old Trafford move

Football Insider verdict

Pardew is right to outline that Guehi would significantly strengthen Man United’s backline, having excelled in Crystal Palace colours over the years.

The 25-year-old has become a regular feature on the international scene for England, and captained the Eagles to FA Cup glory last summer.

However, even if Manchester United ignite serious interest in the former Chelsea man, he would be unlikely to favour a switch to Old Trafford, especially amid Liverpool’s advances for his services.

Guehi has excelled at Crystal Palace

Guehi must remain in strong form this summer to ensure that he is in the England squad for next summer’s World Cup, and he has proven that Crystal Palace is an environment where he can thrive.

Contrastingly, several talented players have joined Manchester United in recent years and have struggled, such as fellow Three Lions international Jadon Sancho, who dazzled in Borussia Dortmund colours but has struggled in the North West.

Guehi would be better served by either staying at Selhurst Park or joining Liverpool, rather than making the move to Amorim’s side.
