Manchester United could accelerate Nathaniel Brown talks after Germany exploits

Manchester United will have been pleased with Nathaniel Brown’s performance for the Germany national team against Ghana after previously being linked with a move for his services.

United are planning to sign a new left-back this summer to compete with Luke Shaw for minutes next season.

Shaw has impressed throughout this season, but will be 31 by the start of next term and is approaching the final year of his current contract at Old Trafford.

Brown’s fine form at Eintracht Frankfurt has seen him emerge onto the Red Devils’ radar in the last few months, while he made his first start for Germany against Ghana on Monday.

It remains to be seen if he figures heavily in Man United’s transfer plans for the summer, but his latest performance on the international stage could have thrust him firmly to the top of their shortlist for left-back targets.

Nathaniel Brown shone for Germany and could now start at the World Cup

Brown made his third appearance for his country in their 2-1 win over Ghana in Stuttgart on Monday, but was handed his maiden start at senior international level by Julian Nagelsmann.

He put in a fine performance at left-back to keep out Man City star Antoine Semenyo, and Germany only conceded to Abdul Fatawu after he had been taken off and replaced by David Raum.

Brown’s stats for Germany vs Ghana

German outlet Bulinews praised Brown’s performance as “extremely composed” and picked out a particularly “crucial” bit of defending to stop Prince Adu from scoring in the first-half.

Football Insider revealed before the last window that United are keen admirers of Brown, and it’s clear that he is only getting better as the season progresses.

He has registered four goals and six assists in 35 games for Frankfurt this season, and looks to be in real contention to start for his country at this summer’s World Cup.

This particularly strong performance up against City star Semenyo, who has ripped Premier League full-backs apart in recent times, should show the Red Devils that the 22-year-old is exactly what they need this summer.

Julian Nagelsmann would surely sign Brown if he became Man United boss

Nagelsmann is open to being United’s next manager, according to Football Insider’s sources, but will first lead Germany into the World Cup this summer.

He remains a contender to take the job ahead of next season, but Michael Carrick is still the frontrunner due to the impressive job he has already done at Old Trafford.

Nagelsmann clearly rates Brown highly, and publicly praised him earlier this month after calling him up to another Germany squad.

He said: “(Brown) is very fast, creative, and very composed on the ball. I think that he has delivered the most consistent performances of all Eintracht players.

“He does have strong competitors (at left-back)…but we expect a lot of him and his time will come soon.“

If United do want to sign Brown, then the best way to land him this summer looks to be through appointing Nagelsmann as their new boss.
