Football Insider rates the Manchester United players out of ten following their 4-0 win against Wigan in the FA Cup at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
Sergio Romero 4 – The backup goalkeeper didn’t have to do much in the game, but when a simple cross was put in the second half, he nearly caused his side all sorts of problems.
Timothy Fosu-Mensah 6 – A mixed performance from the youngster, but when he did turn it on he showed his strength and pace on the right-hand side. Fosu-Mensah has a bright future ahead of him, shame he had to be substituted in the second half with an injury.
Chris Smalling 7 – Scored a brilliant headed goal in the second half to make sure United put their name in the hat for the next round. Didn’t have to do much in defence, but brought the ball out very well from the back.
Marcus Rojo 7 – Wigan didn’t cause too many problems in the final third from open play but the centre-back will be pleased with his night’s work.
Luke Shaw 5 – Poor display from the left-back who is looking a far cry from the teenager that was coming through the ranks at Southampton. Didn’t provide enough threat in attack.
Maraoune Fellaini 7 – Opened the scoring with a typical Fellaini-like goal, whenever he got himself into the box, his presence caused the Championship side problems.
Bastian Schweinsteiger 8 – The German did well to keep the ball ticking in midfield, he produced a brilliant cross for Fellaini to open the scoring in the first half and then scored one himself from a corner.
Juan Mata 8 – Another excellent display from the Spaniard who is fast becoming one of Mourinho’s best players, he linked up well with Mkhitaryan.
Wayne Rooney 7 – Typical Wayne Rooney like display, worked his socks off throughout the game, kept hold of the ball, attacked when possible and made sure Wigan didn’t cause too many problems in defence.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan 9 – Scored the third goal of the game, but in truth, he should have added more during the match. Missed an easy chance at the far post in the first half. However, his performance in the midfield was magnificent, moves the ball with ease and can pick out any type of pass.
Anthony Martial 9 – His pace frightened and caused havoc for the Wigan backline. The Frenchman’s quick feet and cross for Smalling’s goal was of top quality. Martial then showed his dangerous qualities on the counter when he provided Mkhitaryan with an assist for his goal.
Axel Tuanzebe – 5 (for Fosu-Mensah, 68 mins)
Ander Herrera – 6 (for Fellaini, 70mins)
Castro Pereira – 6 (for Romero, 81mins)
