Manchester United set sights on Alphonso Davies deal

Manchester United are continuing to track Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies ahead of the summer transfer window as they plan to make a new left-back signing.

United are planning to bring in a new left-back this summer to provide competition and cover for Luke Shaw.

Davies has been on their radar for several years, but has struggled with recurring injuries in recent seasons at Bayern.

He is one of the best left-backs in the world when fully fit, and as I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, the Red Devils could make a move to sign him this summer.

Man United’s transfer plans are on hold as it stands, however, as they need to appoint a new permanent manager before any talks for new signings can advance.

Man United remain interested in Alphonso Davies despite injury woes

The pacy nature of Davies’ game means he is highly susceptible to muscle injuries, and he is currently sidelined with a hamstring tear after making just eight league appearances all season.

He is still only 25, however, and could be a top signing for the Red Devils if they are willing to gamble on his fitness holding up.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “Alphonso Davies has been a player that United have admired for a long time, as have several clubs across Europe.

“But he’s had a difficult time of late, had a lot of injuries. He had a cruciate ligament last season, so has missed a lot of football and found it tough to find his way back into the team.

“Again, it’s another one, I don’t know if Bayern Munich would rush him out the door at the club.”

Antonee Robinson is another left-back on United’s radar

Shaw looks set to stay at Old Trafford for another season, with his current contract set to expire next summer, while Patrick Dorgu has excelled further forward and could stay as an attacker from now on.

United still want to add competition at left-back, and with Davies being such a high-profile player, it may make more sense to target someone who would be more accepting of a rotational role.

Sources have told Football Insider that United are interested in Fulham star Robinson, who has continued to shine for the capital club after a stellar 2024-25 campaign.

The USA international has played in 19 games this season, amid injury issues of his own, with over 150 career appearances in the Premier League to date.
