Man United tipped to end Pogba talks after ‘shocking’ development – pundit

Manchester United could back out of contract talks with Paul Pogba after his sending-off against Liverpool.

That’s according to former West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the midfielder’s “shocking” red card.

Pogba, 28, saw red in Sunday’s 5-0 loss to Liverpool for a two-footed lunge on Naby Keita.

The Frenchman was slammed by fans and pundits after being sent off just 15 minutes after coming on at halftime.

The midfielder is out of contract at the end of the season and ESPN (27 October) are now reporting the Red Devils will let him leave.

This doesn’t surprise McAvennie as he highlighted Pogba as a key problem at Old Trafford.

“I think Pogba’s the problem,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“He thinks he’s the centre of the universe. That red card was absolutely shocking.

“You don’t go into a challenge like that, I don’t care who you are.

“I’m happy to give him the benefit of the doubt. I don’t think he was trying to hurt Keita.

“But at a point that becomes irrelevant, it was absolutely shocking.

“That gave his side an even harder task against probably the best team in England right now.

“So often he goes missing or doesn’t turn up. Aren’t Man Utd meant to be paying him some huge new contract?

“I can’t see that happening. From what I can see the fans are raging.”

Manchester United are seventh in the Premier League table.

They are next in action against Tottenham on Saturday evening.
