Marc Guehi: Newcastle’s rivals working to hijack deal

Newcastle United are aware that rival clubs are plotting to hijack their deal for Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed Newcastle’s attempts to sign the 24-year-old are ongoing and negotiations are continuing on Friday.

The north-east giants want the deal to be wrapped up quickly and have already had one bid of over £50million rejected for the central defender.

The price tag of Guehi could be the sticking point in this deal as Crystal Palace was top dollar for his services after his impressive performances at Euro 2024.

It is believed that Guehi is interested in the move, and personal terms could be met quickly if the two clubs can come to an agreement.

Newcastle are expected to pay a fee that will rise to over £60million, as long as they can fight off any competition.

Newcastle United want Marc Guehi to provide defensive reinforcements

Eddie Howe has publicly admitted that he’s short of numbers heading into the new season and wants to bring in some new players before the window shuts.

Newcastle will be without Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles until 2025 due to injuries, therefore bringing in a central defender is a high priority.

In an ideal world, Howe would like to get this deal wrapped up as soon as possible ahead of Newcastle’s season opener next weekend.

The Magpies will kickstart their Premier League campaign against Southampton on 17th August and hope to have Guehi in the starting lineup.

Newcastle confirmed the signing of William Osula earlier this week as the club continues to try and improve the squad.
