Marco Silva to Man United: Fulham boss could force exit as Ricardo Pepi deal collapses

Marco Silva is likely still on Manchester United‘s list of potential next managers despite Michael Carrick’s success at Old Trafford.

The Fulham boss has long been linked with a move across the Premier League, with Tottenham and Crystal Palace also named in the race for the Portuguese figure’s signature.

Rumours have subsided at the Theatre of Dreams over the past few weeks, with the Red Devils moving up to third in the Premier League table, and Carrick currently getting the best out of his players.

Man United must decide on Carrick’s future ahead of the summer, though, and while he has had a positive run of results so far, there are far more experienced candidates to choose from.

Marco Silva remains in the race for Man United job

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has already commented on Carrick, stating that he’s done a brilliant job so far, but that doesn’t rule out the Red Devils making a change once the current season finishes.

Carrick only has Middlesbrough and two interim United jobs on his resume, while the managers lining up for an appointment have years and years of experience, with some even boasting trophies.

Although Silva hasn’t won anything since the Championship title in 2021-22, he continues to prove himself as one of the most tactically-gifted managers in the Premier League.

It is no surprise to see him continuously linked with moves across the top tier of English football, and the latest transfer news emerging from Craven Cottage could be the final straw for the 48-year-old.

Ricardo Pepi transfer collapse could spark Fulham exit

PSV Eindhoven technical director Ernest Stewart has confirmed that the Cottagers’ move for star striker Ricardo Pepi has collapsed due to differences over “responsibility for the player” [Daily Mail].

While Fulham have made more big-money moves in recent windows, the manager has often been left frustrated by the club not reaching his needs, and it is not the first time this has happened either.

He made his feelings very clear at Watford and Everton about trying to find a bigger, more important role, and a move to Old Trafford would almost certainly be what he’s been looking for all this time.

Football Insider revealed in February that Nottingham Forest could move for Silva, but Man United could now be the beneficiaries of his frustrations over transfers.
