Marcus Edwards, Wilson Odobert react to Maxime Esteve’s announcement at Burnley

Marcus Edwards and Tottenham winger Wilson Odobert reacted to an announcement from Maxime Esteve on social media.

Burnley ended their season on a high by beating Milwall 3-1 and reaching the heralded 100-point mark in the Championship.

Leeds’ late winner against Plymouth meant Scott Parker’s side missed out on claiming the title, but that matters little given the Clarets have achieved their aim of making it back to the Premier League.

Now heading back to the top tier, Burnley will be hoping to hang on to stars like Esteve and Newcastle target James Trafford.

Both have been intrinsic to the Clarets’ record-setting defence, and keeping hold of them will be crucial in their bid for survival.

Maxime Esteve named Burnley Player of the Season

Following a brilliant season in which he started every Championship game, Esteve was announced as Burnley’s Player of the Season.

The former Montpelier man posted three photos on Instagram, captioned: “Player of the Season! It’s a big honor for me to have been named player of the season.

“Thank you all for your incredible support during this amazing season”.

The post was then liked by ex-Burnley star Odobert, whilst Man United transfer target Edwards commented: “Deserved”.

Burnley primed to buck relegation trend next season

Football Insider Verdict

Of the six teams promoted to the Premier League last season and the season before, all of them have been immediately relegated.

Southampton are three games away from equalling Derby’s record-low points total, and were relegated earlier than any side before them in the Premier League era.

However, if Burnley can keep the core of their side together, they have the best chance out of any side promoted recently to survive.

Whilst Leeds pass the eye test, and the goal test, scoring 95 times on their way to promotion, the Clarets’ resolute defence makes them better suited for being a small fish in the Premier League’s big pond.

Coupled with a few more clinical attackers, Parker’s side have a year’s worth of experience grinding out results and keeping clean sheets, and they are ready to do so again next year.
