Kevin Campbell has been left buzzing after Rob Holding put pen to paper on a new contract at Arsenal.
The former Gunners striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, admitted he has been hugely impressed with how much more assured and calm the 25-year-old has looked this season.
The club announced on Tuesday that Holding has signed a new deal that will keep him at The Emirates until 2024.
Holding has established himself as a mainstay in Mikel Arteta’s defence, having started 14 of Arsenal’s 18 Premier League games this season.
It has been a significant change of fortunes for the defender after he was almost loaned out to fellow Premier League side Newcastle United last summer.
Campbell has been impressed with the Englishman this year and praised the influence of fellow Gunners defender Pablo Mari as Holding’s form improved in the early stages of the season.
“It’s good news. He was said to be close to joining Newcastle on loan in the summer, he told Football Insider.
“It was clear that he was not going to be first choice this season but he has worked hard and got himself in a good position.
“He has been playing regularly and his combination with Pablo Mari has calmed him down.
“Holding has looked more assured alongside Mari. The two of them seem to communicate well. Long may Holding’s form continue.”
Holding, who joined Arsenal from Bolton Wanderers in 2016, is now three games away from his 100th appearance for the club.
He suffered a cruciate ligament injury back in 2018 which limited his game time during both the 2018/19 and 2019/20 campaigns.
