Mark Hughes states Tottenham not doing enough, reveals how they can challenge for PL

Stoke City manager Mark Hughes has revealed that Tottenham need to win something in order to breed a winning mentality as it looks like they’ve missed out on the Premier League title again.

In an interview with the Daily Mirror, the Stoke City boss shared that he felt people thought Spurs were the best team in the league over the last two years, despite being trophy-less.

When asked whether it was important for Tottenham to win a major trophy, Hughes said: “They probably feel that themselves and to get that trophy helps a team develop, because then you understand what it takes to win things.”

Hughes referred to his time as a player at Manchester United, sharing that league success only came after winning other trophies regularly.

The Stoke City manager said that maybe Tottenham have to do the same in order to take the next step.

Spurs are currently in the Champions League knockout stages and are about to kick-start their FA Cup campaign in January against AFC Wimbledon.

However, Tottenham have already exited the League Cup this season after losing to West Ham 3-2 in September and their bid to win the Premier League looks dead with them currently 15 points behind Manchester City, with the league leaders having a game in hand.

Mauricio Pochettino is yet to win a trophy in English football across his time at Spurs and Southampton, despite receiving plaudits.

However, he did prove what Hughes said about them being one of the best teams in the Premier League when he demolished Hughes’ team 5-1 at Wembley on Saturday.

In other Tottenham news, Spurs are to green light the exit of this 23-year-old after agreeing a deal in September.
