BBC Sport pundit Mark Lawrenson has boldly claimed that Chelsea will win against Tottenham at Stamford Bridge on Easter Sunday, even though he believes both teams will be “raring to go”.
Lawrenson has predicted that Antonio Conte’s side will win 2-0 against Spurs, which would move them to within two points of their London rivals.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men have an away record in the Premier League that is only bettered by champions-elect Manchester City while Chelsea have the worst home record among the top six clubs.
However that has not stopped ex-Liverpool player Lawrenson from tipping a Blues win at Stamford Bridge this weekend.
“This is Chelsea’s big chance to narrow the gap on Tottenham in the race for the top four, and it feels like a game they have to win if they are going overhaul them,” he said on the BBC Sport website.
“It should be a lively one because there is not much love lost between the two teams.
“They will both be raring to go after the international break because they are both out of Europe, but I am going to go with Chelsea to win it.”
Football Insider verdict
Spurs are really going to miss Harry Kane against Chelsea so it will be paramount that Heung-min Son is on top of his form for the all-London clash. Pochettino’s side have not really struggled without Kane when he has been injured in the past with the South Korea international stepping up and bagging the goals instead. Chelsea will be a tough nut to crack for someone who is not an out-and-out striker, especially as they know that a win can move them within one point of Spurs and a spot in the top four. On the other hand, Spurs will want to fight to be runners-up for a second year in a row. Three points can potentially put them one behind second-placed Manchester United.
