Mark Lawrenson predicts Liverpool v Chelsea

By Dominic Toner

Mark Lawrenson has predicted Liverpool to draw 1-1 against Chelsea in the Premier League.

The Reds host Chelsea at Anfield on Tuesday and will be looking to end their miserable run of form.

The Merseyside club side are 10 points adrift of Antonio Conte’s table toppers and will be keen to bridge the gap to get back into the title race.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have been eliminated from both the EFL and FA Cup in the past week, with home defeats to Southampton and Wolves respectively.

Lawrenson feels that a draw would be a good result for Liverpool as they should be aiming for the top four.

“I actually think this is a good game for Liverpool to have on the back of their recent poor form,” Lawrenson said, as quoted by BBC Sport. “It is not as if Jurgen Klopp will have to worry about his players not being up for this one, and they are finding it hard to score against everyone at the moment.”

“A draw would be a great result for Chelsea because of the breathing space they have at the top and I don’t think it would be a bad one for Liverpool either. At the start of the season, their aim was to finish in the top four. Even if they drop points in this game I still think they have got a realistic chance of making it.”

Liverpool have been regarded as one of the main contenders for the league title this season, but have suffered a considerable dip of form lately.

They have suffered without Sadio Mane during his absence to the Africa Cup of Nations, but he could be in line to make his return.

The Reds have not won in their last nine games across all competitions and will be under serious pressure from their supporters to bounce back against Chelsea.
