Mark Lawrenson predicts Tottenham v Manchester United, hits out at senior man
By Amir Mir
Mark Lawrenson has backed Tottenham to beat Manchester United 2-0 in their Premier League match at White Hart Lane on Sunday afternoon.
The former Liverpool defender hit out as United manager, Jose Mourinho by stating that he “doesn’t buy” the senior man’s comments about the size or strength of his squad.
Prior to their clash against Spurs, the Manchester club will participate in a Europa League second leg semi-final clash against Celta Vigo.
During their last league match, Mourinho made eight changes to his side as they were beaten by Arsenal as he rested and rotated a number of players.
Lawrenson clearly doesn’t like the idea that Mourinho is making excuses for possibly missing out on the top four because of their participation in the Euroa League.
“I have been saying for a while now that I don’t buy Jose Mourinho’s comments about the size or strength of his squad,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport. “I don’t see United’s Europa League campaign as an excuse if they miss out on the top four.
“I have been saying for a while now that I don’t buy Jose Mourinho’s comments about the size or strength of his squad, and I don’t see United’s Europa League campaign as an excuse if they miss out on the top four.
“Tottenham’s defeat and performance at West Ham was a disappointing end to their title hopes but I think we have seen enough from them this season to expect a response.”
United are currently sitting in sixth place and it is likely that two of Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool will join Tottenham and leaders Chelsea in the top four.
Mourinho still has the chance to playing Champions League football next term if they can win the Europa League, which will give them an automatic place for next season’s competition.
At the weekend, they will play a Spurs team that will be playing their final match at the Lane, where they have not been beaten during this campaign.
There is no doubt that the players and supporters will be fired up for what is set to be an emotional send off for those associated with the club.
