Martin and Rangers fans should be delighted by ‘new Neymar’ Mikey Moore coup

Russell Martin and Rangers are expected to sign Tottenham’s Mikey Moore on a season-long loan to strengthen the Scottish side in what represents a huge boost at Ibrox.

The ex-Southampton boss has started his Rangers career with promise, following their 2-0 win against Panathinaikos in Champions League qualification.

The Gers will face the Greek outfit again on 30 July as they aim to join rivals Celtic in the top European competition.

Martin suffered in the Premier League with the Saints as they struggled to adapt to the league’s quick-pace and high pressure.

His progressive passing play was ultimately torn to pieces in the English top-division, leading to his sacking in December 2024.

St Mary’s fans had to sit through an abysmal season which saw their side relegated to the Championship, sitting rock bottom with 12 points.

Now at the helm in Scotland, the Englishman is expected to bring in talented Spurs winger Moore to the Ibrox.

Moore snubs Championship sides in favour of Rangers

According to Sky Sports’ Michael Bridge on X (28 July), the Tottenham youngster is set to join Rangers on a season-long loan.

The deal is a reported “straight loan” with no option to buy.

Bridge also added: “Moore chose Rangers despite several offers in the Championship.”

Martin to bring the best out of Moore

Jokingly compared to “Neymar” by Lilywhites teammate James Maddison, Moore has a bright future ahead of him.

He enjoyed a breakthrough year in north London in the 2024-25 season, featuring 19 times across all competitions.

But, with the arrival of Mohammed Kudus from West Ham, the 17-year-old will be pushed back in the pecking order under Thomas Frank.

Therefore, a move to Rangers for the season would be the ideal place to progress and learn under Martin, who is known for his ability to develop youth talent.

Most recently, the former Saints boss oversaw the introduction of 19-year-old Tyler Dibling who shone for the club despite their shocking Premier League season.

The Southampton academy star made 38 appearances across all competitions, scoring four times.

His raw talent, iconised by his low socks and shin-pad combination, even raised eyebrows when the Southampton hierarchy reportedly valued Dibling at £100million.

The wide-player is just one of the several youth prodigies Martin has been able to greatly improve and Moore could be next on the list.

Provided the Light Blues qualify for Champions League football, the teenager will get some excellent experience under his belt.

With the former Swansea City boss’ arm around him, Moore should thrive which will delight the Ibrox faithful.
