Mason Mount could kick-start Chelsea blizzard of deals after confirmed news - pundit
Noel Whelan has suggested Chelsea must tie down a number of key stars immediately after Todd Boehly’s takeover is finalised.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed Mason Mount, 23, must be at the front of the queue for improved terms.
In a statement released by the club on Saturday (7 May), Chelsea confirmed terms have been agreed on a £4.25billion takeover led by Boehly.
The American, who was in attendance for the 2-2 draw against Wolves on Saturday, is expected to complete the purchase late this month.
Mount is out of contract in June 2024 but has been linked with a number of the world’s top clubs amid uncertainty at Stamford Bridge.
Whelan claimed the 12-goal midfielder will want to have a “long term future” at a club he “loves”.

“There are a lot of things which will need to be ticked off when this new owner comes in,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“It’s like the Newcastle takeover. There’s a lot of T’s to cross and I’s to dot. It’s a lot of work in a short space of time.
“I think there are a lot of players who need to be tied down. They want to know where their future lies.
“The uncertainty hasn’t helped them. The likes of Mason Mount will want stability and a long-term future at a club he clearly loves.
“That can only take place when everything is signed off. They need to concentrate on keeping the main core of players at the club and build on that.”
Chelsea sit third in the Premier League.
N’Golo Kante and Jorginho are among the Blues stars out of contract in 2023.
