Mason Mount will cost Liverpool and Man City 'big, big money' - pundit

Alan Hutton has insisted Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount would cost Liverpool or Manchester City “big, big money” this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Scotland international claimed the 23-year-old would have to be either club’s “top target” to warrant splashing out on his capture.

As reported by the Athletic (30 April), three of England’s biggest sides, as well as foreign outfits, are putting plans in place to sign Mount.

The Sun (30 April) claim that City and Liverpool are among the attacking midfielder’s suitors as he heads into the final two years of his contract.

Hutton insisted Chelsea would still be able to demand a mega-money fee for the England international this summer.

As such, he suggested a suitor would only make a move if Mount is their number one transfer target.

Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Can you imagine the Chelsea fans? They’d go absolutely mental.

“How much are we talking? He’s still got two years left. It’s millions, it’s going to be a big sum.

“It really comes down to is that what one of these two clubs really need? That’d be your top target, big, big money for him. It would be difficult.

“If we’re moving into the realm, maybe, of the last year of your contract, I think there’d be a better opportunity for him to leave. Maybe the fee wouldn’t be as big.

“Sitting with two years, I don’t think Chelsea will be any sort of rush to try and move him on.”

Mount is a graduate of the academy at Stamford Bridge.

He has played 157 times for Chelsea to date.
