Massadio Haidara played 90 minutes for Newcastle United as they were dumped out of the FA Cup 3-0 by Chelsea, however the 25-year-old believes the margin of defeat was harsh.
Speaking to the club website, the Frenchman stated that he believes the Magpies played better than the scoreline suggests.
“We are really dissapointed with the result, i think it’s a bit harsh because we did well in the first half,
“If you dont score it’s hard to carry on.”
Newcaslte looked for the most part out-matched by their Premier League rivals, yet were not without their own chances, as Dwight Gayle tested the gloves of Willy Caballero at times.
On his first appearance this season, Haidara provided chances for his magpies team mates that went tantilisingly close, but Chelsea’s clean sheet sees that Newcastle have failed to reach the fifth-round of the FA Cup for 12 consecutive years.
The 25-year-old concedes that a change of tactics by Chelsea in the second hald could be the reason that Newcastle were overwhelmed,
“They pushed higher in the second half, it was more difficult for us.
“After they scored the goal it became harder and harder for us.”
The result could help Newcastle in the long run, as they now can solely focus on the ultiamte goal of staying in the Premier League.
