Huge announcement confirms manager resolution today as betting suspended on Rangers job

The future of Derek McInnes will be decided ‘sometime today’, according to Aberdeen’s stand-in manager Paul Sheerin.

Sheerin was talking as a stand-in for McInnes in the pre-match press conference, amid speculation that McInnes is going to take the Ranger manager job.

The news was announced on the official Aberdeen Twitter page on Thursday lunchtime.

The Scottish Sun had previously reported that that McInnes’ move is finally expected to be sorted today after weeks of rumours.

Sheerin also said that the uncertainty was not good for fans but all they could do was focus on their game against Dundee on Friday evening.

Betting has now been suspended with most of the major bookies, including SkyBet where McInnes had been the short-priced favourite for weeks.

Paddy Power is the only major bookie still taking bets at a prohibitively short price of 1.04. It means that you’d win 4p for ever £1 you bet.

In other Rangers news, Celtic have suddenly become a key part in the Gers’ bid to appoint McInnes.
