Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez has confirmed that both Mo Diame and Joselu are fit for the trip to Leicester City in the Premier League on Saturday.

The former Senegalese international left the field of play in the 79th minute of the Magpies 1-0 win against Huddersfield last time out, amidst fears of a spell on the sidelines.

But according to Lee Ryder, chief sports writer on the Newcastle Chronicle, after speaking to the Spanish manager pre-match, the decision to remove Diame was as a “precaution” only and will be available at the weekend.

Joselu, meanwhile, missed the victory at St James’ Park against the Terriers but has recovered.

Football Insider verdict:

This is fantastic news for Newcastle to have Diame available for the fixture. The Magpies aren’t mathematically certain of their Premier League status but to have the French-born Senegalese midfielder available is a massive boost, as the 30-year-old has emerged as one of Benitez’ most important players – key to their bid for survival in the top-flight. Spanish striker Joselu is the club’s second-top scorer with four goals and has been used sparingly of late. But strength in numbers is key at this stage of the season and to have the 28-year-old available will be welcome news for the former Liverpool boss.
