Kevin Campbell has heaped praise on Kalvin Phillips as the Leeds United midfielder nears his return from injury.
The former Arsenal and Everton striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, claimed it would be a “massive boost” to have the 24-year-old back in the squad this weekend.
Phillips has been sidelined for the last three Premier League games with a shoulder injury suffered in the 1-0 loss against Wolves in mid-October.
Football Insider revealed last week that the centre-midfielder is back in light training as he steps up his recovery ahead of this weekend’s game against Arsenal.
In a conversation with teammate Leif Davis, the Phillips confirmed his imminent return and revealed an injection this week could see him in contention to face the Gunners on Sunday.
When asked by Football Insider for his reaction to the latest on the England international’s return, Campbell said: “I’m a big fan of his.
“I think he is a really good player – tenacious, good passer and he knows their system inside out.
“He protects the back line very well. He sits in that midfield and dictates the play.
“Leeds have really missed him and having him back will be a massive boost for them, definitely.”
Marcelo Bielsa’s side have looked considerably weaker defensively while the England international has been absent.
A 3-0 victory at Aston Villa was followed by back-to-back 4-1 losses against Leicester City and Crystal Palace.
In other Leeds United news, Noel Whelan has told Football Insider he is over the moon at “huge” player update pre-Arsenal.
