'Massive' - Exclusive: Ex-striker reacts to 'Mouthwatering' Newcastle man speculation

Noel Whelan has claimed that the prospect of PSG making a move for on-loan Newcastle United full-back 29-year-old will be “mouthwatering” for the player.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Leeds United striker suggested that the 29-year-old would find it difficult to ignore the lure of a summer switch to the continent.

A report from The Sun states that the Champions League club will send scouts to keep tabs on Rose during his spell on Tyneside with view to a potential permanent swoop in the summer.

The England international completed a loan move to St. James’ Park from parent club Tottenham Hotspur during the January transfer window, and Whelan insists that he must stay focused on the task at hand before dreaming of a move to the continent.

“It’s whether he wants to go abroad,” he told Football Insider.

“Obviously it’s a massive club. It’s hard to turn certain clubs down like that because you are going to have the chance to win the Champions League every season with the money they can generate, and he’d be playing alongside top class international players.

“It’s quite mouthwatering and flattering for Danny Rose to be linked with that massive sort of club.

“But at the minute he’s got a job to do in Newcastle, and I think his performances will dictate whether that move comes around or not.

“It’s kind of strange, and I don’t know if it’s true or not, because you would have thought that if they were interested in him they would have come in in the January window if they [PSG] were that desperate to have him.”

Rose made his debut for the Toon Army with an 11 minute cameo against Norwich City last weekend after having struggled for game time in north London during the first half of the season.

The defender was limited to just 12 Premier League appearances for Spurs this term, and had started just one match since Jose Mourinho took over as manager in November.
