Five-time PL winner will consider Everton switch – Sky
By Danny Wright
Wayne Rooney will consider a return to Everton, according to a report.
Sky Sports reported that the 31-year-old will consider a move back to Goodison Park in the summer as well as offers to move to the MLS or Chinese Super League.
The report also says that Everton made an approach for Rooney in the January transfer window for a loan deal, but that was rejected by Manchester United who insisted that the massive Premier League star was still a part of their plans.
Speculation has been rife about a possible return to Merseyside after Ronald Koeman admitted that he would like to make the England captain part of his squad.
Paul Stretford, Rooney’s agent, visited China last week where, also according to this report, he held talks with four Chinese clubs.
Rooney made his debut for Everton at 16-years-old and moved to Old Trafford in 2004.
The United legend has turned out 549 for the clubs and scored a staggering 250 goals in his time at the club, winning all there is to win at the club including five Premier League titles, an FA Cup and a Champions League title.
However, the striker has been used sparingly by Jose Mourinho this season and has only started eight Premier League matches through the campaign.
Football Insider Verdict
Wayne Rooney is an English football icon and it would be a shame to see him move to either the USA or China to wind down his career. A return to Everton would be an almost poetic way for him to play out the final years of his career which has hit a stumbling block in the past few years. Rooney’s best years are clearly behind him and he cannot justify a place in the United team at the moment given the form of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and young stars breaking through such as Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford. It would be a good move for Everton too as Rooney could provide a massive role model and dressing room influence to the young stars that are budding into the first team lately.
