Noel Whelan has claimed he would be “massively surprised” if Aston Villa do not comfortably dispose of Bolton Wanderers in today’s Championship showdown.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Leeds United and Coventry City striker has been blown away by Villa during their hot streak of eight consecutive league wins.
Dean Smith’s side have raced up the Championship table and will further cement their place in the end-of-season play-offs if they extend their winning run in the 3pm kick-off at Bolton.
The Lancashire side are 23rd in the table and their relegation will be confirmed if they do not upset the odds with a triumph against Smith’s high flyers.
“I do not see Bolton being a problem for Aston Villa,” Whelan said. “I would be massively surprised if Villa lose or even if they drop points with a draw.
“They form they are in at the moment, and the belief the players have in each other, they will prove too much for a Bolton side who are certain to be relegated.”
Villa are expected to welcome back Jack Grealish into their starting XI after he missed their win over Bristol City through illness, while Tammy Abraham should also start after suffering groin trouble.
“They are Villa’s two special players and make such a difference,” added Whelan to Football Insider. “Grealish keeps the team ticking over and Abraham is a goalscorer and matchwinner.”
In other Aston Villa news, it can be the REVEALED that the club are readying a £30million move for a Villa player after jetting in for a transfer mission.
