Mathys Tel bids farewell in new message as Tottenham exit confirmed
Tottenham Hotspur loanee Mathys Tel sent a message on social media as speculation grows over his long-term future.
Spurs signed Tel on a half-season loan from Bayern Munich on Deadline Day of the winter window, and the France youth international’s spell in North London ended on a high with the Europa League title.
The 20-year-old managed three goals and an assist in 20 appearances across all competitions for Spurs, but started just 14 times despite Tottenham fans’ initial belief that Tel would be their “new number nine”.
Football Insider revealed on 5 June that Tel is “open” to staying at Tottenham permanently after his displays in the second half of the season, but Spurs’ transfer plans have now been thrown into doubt.
Ange Postecoglou played a crucial role in swaying Tel Tottenham’s way ahead of a move to Manchester United, but it remains to be seen what happens next for Spurs after the Australian’s fate was decided.

Postecoglou sent message as Tel reacts to Tottenham axe
Ex-Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson told Football Insider on 10 May that Tel, Richarlison and Cristian Romero would headline the outgoings at Tottenham this summer, regardless of Postecoglou’s future.
The foundations of that plan are now unclear after Postecoglou was finally shown the door by Tottenham on Friday, sacked just 16 days after he delivered the Europa League and Spurs’ first trophy in 17 years.
Tel didn’t get off the bench against Man United in their European decider on 21 May, but still posted a message of gratitude to Postecoglou on his Instagram story (7 June), saying: “Thank you coach – all the best for the rest of your career”.

Tel and Tottenham at crossroads after Postecoglou sack
Tel may have indicated that he’s happy to stay put at Spurs beyond this season, but Postecoglou’s sacking and Tottenham’s option to buy worth £45.7million could plunge a permanent deal into doubt.
Robinson told Football Insider back in March that Tottenham’s recruitment plans had been put on hold amid the uncertainty over Postecoglou’s future, and it remains to be seen how that will kick back into life.
Tottenham’s full focus at present is to find a replacement for Postecoglou with a deal close for Brentford boss Thomas Frank, but as time ticks on, players of quality like Tel will soon be on the open market again.
