Mauricio Pochettino believes that keeping Mousa Dembele fit is vital to Tottenham’s success, as the midfielder has previously suffered issues with both his hip and ankle.
Speaking in a press conference, as quoted by Football London, the Argentian born manager stated that keeping Dembele fit is vital.
“I think the problem is about his fitness, no? Because, that is about his quality, there is no doubt that like I have told you many times, for me he is a genius, an unbelievable player.”
“But we must be careful about his fitness, it is good and he can train and, he can make this type of performance because he is a great talented player.”
Although the former Fulham man is not known for his goal scoring antics, having not found the net once this season, his immense build up play and ball security are crucial to Spurs.
Dembele even holds the record in the Premier League for the longest consecutive ammount of time without losing the ball.
This is something that Pochettino understands, previously labelling the Belgian international as a footballing genius.
Just over a year ago, Pochettino went so far as to say that Tottenham ‘do not exist’ without Dembele’s services.
It is expected that the 30-year-old will play versus Juventus this week in the Champions League, as the London based team look to continue impressing in Europe this season.
