'Maybe this is my last season' - Tottenham midfielder drops contract bombshell
Tottenham midfielder Mousa Dembele has admitted that this could be his final season at the club.
Dembele, 30, is due to enter the final year of his contract in the summer and he has confirmed that he will hold talks with Spurs once he has finished representing Belgium at the World Cup in Russia.
The former Fulham midfielder has been in stunning form for Spurs this season, making 33 appearances in all competitions.
Although he is not aware of any interest in him, the senior player has dropped a bombshell saying that he may leave the North London club in the summer if terms are not agreed for a new deal.
“If we talk about a new contract in the middle of the season, it will cost energy. Imagine that a player feels not appreciated after a disappointing proposal, it can disrupt his game,” he told Belgian newspaper La Derniere Heure, as quoted by the Telegraph.
“At this moment, I am very happy at Tottenham. I do not lie when I say that I do not think about a big transfer. I want to play a World Cup and afterwards we will see.

“Really, I’m not aware of the interest of other clubs. And, besides, I told my agent to wait for the summer to tell me about any offers. For now, I’m only focussing on Tottenham. Maybe this is my last season. Or maybe I’ll sign a new deal. We’ll see.”

Dembele really does not sound sure about his Tottenham future and that is a massive sign that the midfielder could be on his way out in the summer transfer window. The Belgium international will not be short of admirers given how well he has played and how crucial he has been in Mauricio Pochettino’s squad over the past few seasons. He could have easily turned around and said something different but it will put fans on edge that he will leave the club now, following Toby Alderweireld in another player that Daniel Levy has failed to get to pen a fresh deal.
