Frank McAvennie is backing Patrick Bamford to score even more goals for Leeds United next season.
The former West Ham hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, even tipped the striker to go to the Qatar World Cup with England.
Bamford, 27, racked up over 3000 Premier League minutes for Leeds in the recently concluded season.
In that time, he scored 17 goals and picked up eight assists.
Before the season started Bamford only had one top flight goal to his name.
Despite his form, the striker didn’t make Gareth Southgate’s preliminary 33-man squad for this summer’s European Championship.
However, McAvennie predicts Bamford will score even more goals next season and earn a place in Southgate’s 2022 World Cup squad.
When asked if Bamford will score even more goals next season, McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild, “I think so.
“He needs a good pre-season under his belt. I think he will push and be in the World Cup squad next year if he carries on.
“This was his season after everything that was said before a ball was even kicked.
“He’s not going to the Euros. For him, that’s great actually. He’s played so much football this season. He was wonderful.
“He can have that rest he needs this summer and come back next season ready to go again. I’m excited to see him.
“Now he’s had that first season back, he can go for it next season and be a sensation. Especially if Leeds bring in some attackers this summer.”
Bamford finished as the joint-fourth top goalscorer in the recently concluded Premier League.
His goals helped Leeds secure a top half finish in their return to the top flight.
