McAvennie claims Gerrard is 'perfect' for Tottenham after source's Thursday update
Frank McAvennie claims Steven Gerrard could be the “perfect” fit for Tottenham as their manager hunt drags on.
The former West Ham striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, did admit that the Rangers boss would not consider taking the job if it was offered.
As revealed by Football Insider on Thursday (June 24th), newly-appointed director of football Fabio Paratici is now pushing hard to hire Nuno Espirito Santo as Spurs’ new boss.
Spurs have seen talks with Antonio Conte and more recntly Paulo Fonseca fall through in recent weeks.
Last season, Gerrard achieved status as a Rangers legend after winning the club’s first title in ten years.
There have been various links between Gerrard and a return to the Premier League during his time at Ibrox.

When asked if Gerrard would consider leaving Rangers for Tottenham, McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild, “Of course he wouldn’t, Tottenham are a shambles.
“They haven’t got any money and they aren’t going to give him any transfer funds.
“Tottenham needs a huge package to offer to a new manager.
“The whole club needs a huge rebuild. On paper, Gerrard looks good because he did that at Rangers. He’s perfect if you look at it like that.
“Now he’s a legend there. Which is probably why he won’t leave.
“Because so many managers have turned Tottenham down, it’s even harder to appoint someone now.“
Spurs have been looking for a new boss since they sacked Jose Mourinho just days before the Carabao Cup final in April.
The club will play in next season’s inaugural UEFA Europa Conference League after a disappointing season.
