McAvennie 'laughs' at Rangers amid Alfredo Morelos transfer report - 'I nearly fell off my chair'

Rangers will not let Alfredo Morelos leave the club for nothing.

That’s according to Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Ibrox club’s transfer business.

According to Spanish outlet Estadio Deportivo (22 June), Sevilla have made a bid of around £6.8million for Morelos.

The striker is entering the final year of his contract in Glasgow.

No player has scored more than the Colombian for Rangers since his arrival from HJK Helsinki in 2017.

Despite missing out on the Europa League final last season, the 26-year-old has been key to the Gers’ success in Europe over the last few years.

When asked what signings Rangers would need to make this summer to challenge for the title next season, McAvennie told Football Insider: “I don’t know if they’ve got the money to buy players.

“I had to laugh when they were saying they were going to bring in Gareth Bale. I nearly fell off my chair.

“But I think if someone were to come in for Morelos he’s off. He’s going into the last year of his contract and they will not want to let him go for nothing.

“In terms of the title race next season, I don’t know if they need anyone. I think they’ve got players that can fight for the title.

Last season Morelos made 42 appearances across all competitions for the Gers.

He scored 18 goals and provided seven assists, despite missing the end of the season due to a thigh injury.

In other news, Rangers are expected to seal a striker and a centre-back on one condition.
