McLeish makes 'magic' claim amid update on Leeds bid to sign Gallagher
Alex McLeish has claimed Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira may have to use some “magic” to beat Leeds United to the signing of Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher.
The former Scotland manager, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the lure of staying in London may have swayed the 21-year-old.
As reported by the Athletic on Thursday (July 29th), Gallagher has opted to join Palace over Leeds on a season-long loan.
The Whites reportedly made an approach last week (July 23rd) and pitched the move to the Chelsea starlet.
Gallagher spent last season on loan at West Brom.
McLeish insisted Leeds and Marcelo Bielsa would be an attractive destination for any young prospect.

However, he suggested Vieira had played a big part in convincing Gallagher to move to Selhurst Park instead.
McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “It could be the London thing. He may be more comfortable staying in London at this time.
“The lure of Bielsa at a resurgent Leeds is something I think a lot of young players would really love. That chance to have the opportunity to work under him.
“So I guess it may take a piece of Vieira magic, or Crystal Palace’s recruitment team, to try and lure him there.
“Agents will be involved as well. He’s certainly a terrific prospect but I would have thought he may favour staying in London.”
Gallagher played 32 times for West Brom last season, with two goals and two assists to his name.
However, he is yet to make his competitive debut for Chelsea.
