McLeish: Rangers contract rebels Kent and Goldson 'inspired' to extend deals after 'great news' from Ibrox
Glen Kamara’s new Rangers contract could provide “inspiration” for his teammates Connor Goldson and Ryan Kent to extend their deals, according to Alex McLeish.
The former Gers manager, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, said the announcement was “great news” after the club fended off interest from Premier League sides.
As confirmed on Wednesday, Kamara has put pen to paper on a new deal with Rangers until summer 2025.
Manager Steven Gerrard said the midfielder plays an “integral role” for the Ibrox club, also branding him a “highly respected” member of the Gers squad.
Kamara has made 116 appearances for the club, including 28 in the victorious Scottish Premiership campaign last term.
McLeish insisted the news is a “good message” to his Rangers teammates.

“It’s really great news to have him tied down after all the speculation and rumours about the Premier League interest,” he told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge.
“I think he really loves Rangers, and the contract proves that.
“I’m sure it’s a good contract for the player as well, as the club are in a good position at the moment.
“It could give inspiration to others at the club – not only to give great performances consistently as Kamara does.
“There’s also the fact that he’s snubbed the interest from a bigger league and bigger money.
“It’s a really good message for his teammates.”
Kamara has made 11 appearances for Rangers this term, including in Saturday’s league clash against Dundee.
The 30-cap Finland midfielder’s previous deal was set to expire in 2023.
