McLeish thrilled as West Ham lead race to sign 'world-class' Edouard
Alex McLeish has admitted he is excited at the prospect of Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard testing himself in the Premier League at a club like West Ham.
The former Scotland boss, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 23-year-old would only improve by playing against a higher level of opposition.
As revealed by Football Insider, West Ham have climbed into pole position to sign the France under-21 striker this summer.
It is understood the Irons have made a breakthrough in recent days as they lay the groundwork of a deal.
The Irons are bidding to beat Arsenal and Leicester City to his capture.
Former manager Neil Lennon called the hitman’s finishing “world-class” last year.

McLeish suggested Edouard needed to test himself at a higher level to continue developing as a young striker.
As such, he admitted he would love to see the Frenchman make the switch to the Premier League.
“I’d be really keen to see Odsonne at that level,” McLeish told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge.
“He’s done it for his country as well as Celtic in the Premiership. Europe has been tougher for him but you can see that the guy’s a threat.
“He’s still young and it should be correct to say that he can only be better.
“The higher the level he goes, you would think the better he gets. I don’t mean that there are higher levels of football teams than Celtic but I mean a higher, different competition.
“West Ham are probably one of many that will be linked but they’re the ones grabbing the headlines. That’s the next move.”
Edouard has been consistently prolific during his time with Celtic and has 20 goals under his belt this term.
He has also scored regularly for France’s under-21s, with 17 goals in 13 appearances.
