McLeish thrilled by Kamara transfer update after Rangers talks

Alex McLeish is impressed after Glen Kamara addressed speculation over a potential move away from Rangers this summer.

The former Gers boss, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 25-year-old’s “intelligent comments” are exactly what you want to hear as a manager.

As revealed by Football Insider (7th September), Arsenal made a move to re-sign Kamara this summer.

The midfielder was open to discussing a potential move back to north London.

Speaking to Finnish broadcaster MTV Uutiset, Kamara revealed clubs had shown interest in signing him over the summer.

However, he insists his focus is fully on Rangers.

McLeish admitted Kamara had said exactly the right thing to address the rumours about his future at Ibrox.

“He does seem like a focussed guy,” McLeish told Football Insider deputy editor Russell Edge.

“He seems a very focussed guy. That’s the type of intelligent comments you would want to hear from your player.

“Kamara has said if something happens, it happens. If it doesn’t, then it doesn’t take away his focus on the Rangers situation and his own position in the team.

“That’s a guy with a bit of maturity, thinking ahead.”

Kamara has established himself as a mainstay for Rangers since joining from Dundee in January 2019.

He has played 112 times across all competitions for Gerrard’s men to date.

He still has two years left on the contract he signed when moving to Ibrox.

However, the 34-cap international has confirmed discussions are underway over a new deal.
