Jackie McNamara has questioned why Rangers are making so many free signings after the Ibrox outfit confirmed the capture of Greg Stewart from Birmingham City.
The former Scotland international, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, says that the 29-year-old’s move from the Championship side to Glasgow has his alarm bells ringing as he becomes the fourth free transfer at the Light Blues.
The Gers confirmed the deal on Thursday via their official Twitter account, Steven Gerrard’s side having sealed deals for Jordan Jones, Jake Hastie and Steven Davis – from Kilmarnock, Motherwell and Southampton respectively.
With all those moves coming as frees, McNamara queries if some of Rangers’ top stars need to leave before they can start spending.

Asked what he thought about Stewart’s capture, he told Football Insider: “It’s a strange one, another free. They seem to be getting a lot of free transfers as they did last year.
“We talk about the lads they’re trying to get – they haven’t spent any money yet. There’s still nothing with Morelos or Tavenier, them leaving maybe to fund more.
“They’ve took another free transfer so they’re just paying their salaries. He did well at Kilmarnock at the start of the season, not a big impact at Aberdeen. We’ll see what happens, whether he plays a lot.”
Stewart made a total 28 Premiership appearances for Kilmarnock and Aberdeen during his loan spells from parent club Birmingham, all but one of his league goals coming with Killie.
South of the border he featured 22 times for the Blues but failed to find the back of the net.
In other Rangers news, it can be REVEALED the Light Blues are on the verge of finding out if they have secured a 10-goal talent for next season.
