Jackie McNamara says that Celtic will change focus after missing out on David Turnbull and that the Motherwell star was not the top target this summer for Neil Lennon.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the Hoops and Scotland legend says that he was still unsure about whether Turnbull would have made an immediate impact on the squad and that there will be other options in the sights of the Bhoys.

Motherwell confirmed on Thursday that an issue raised in the 19-year-old’s medical tests with Celtic meant that he would have to undergo surgery, forcing him to the sidelines for an extended period.

With a revised deal from the Premiership champions rejected by their top-flight rivals, McNamara says that there are others Lennon will be working on and that things will materialise in the coming weeks.

He told Football Insider: “I think he’ll be one of many targets that they’ve got. I don’t think the whole summer was relying on David Turnbull coming, it was one that I’m still unsure whether he’d fit into the team anyway.

“He had a good first season at Motherwell but it’s a different animal when you’ve got to handle the demands at Celtic week in, week out.

“Lennon’s got a few plates spinning right now with different players so I think over the next couple of weeks we’ll see what materialises.”

Celtic’s failed raid for Turnbull came after the 19-year-old’s impressive breakthrough campaign, with 15 goals and six appearances in 31 first team appearances for Motherwell.

In other Celtic news, it can be REVEALED that a Hoops forward has travelled to England with a move to a Championship side on the cards.
