Giovani Lo Celso has landed in London and is heading to Tottenham to undergo medical tests before completing a loan-to-buy move from Real Betis, Football Insider can reveal.
The north Londoners have been in talks all summer to try and sign the Argentina international, 23, and have finally reached agreement over the structure of the the transfer.
A source with knowledge of Tottenham’s recruitment has told Football Insider that Spurs will pay a £14m loan fee for Lo Celso and the deal will become permanent at a further cost of £37million if the club qualify for any European competition this season.
The Londoners are confident that the attacking midfielder will be confirmed as a Tottenham player before the transfer cut-off at 5pm today.
Manager Mauricio Pochettino regards the imminent capture of Lo Celso as a real coup as he identified him at the start of the window as a prime summer signing.
Pochettino has held telephone conversations with his countryman to persuade him to make the move and outline how he sees him fitting into the Spurs side next season.
As revealed by Football Insider in June, Lo Celso has told friends he is eager to move to the Premier League and join Spurs.
Lo Celso took his game to a new level last season at Betis and has also become an increasingly influential figure for the Argentina team.
The 18-times international scored 16 goals and supplied six assists from 45 matches in all competitions for Betis last season, with nearly all of those coming in the key La Liga and Europa League competitions.
