Medical booked: Wenham thrilled by Romano's 'surprising' Tottenham transfer update

Tottenham insider John Wenham has no regrets over Serge Aurier’s summer exit as he nears a new club.

Spurs insider Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels, reacted to the latest on the defender.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano reported on 3rd October Aurier is nearing a move to Villarreal and has been booked in for a medical.

Aurier left Tottenham on deadline day after his contract was mutually terminated.

Spurs have a wealth of options at right-back after the signing of Emerson Royal this summer.

Wenham has no regrets over Aurier’s exit and is surprised he managed to find a quality club like Villarreal.

“I’m delighted he’s gone,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I never took to him, to be honest. We had to issue an apology when he arrived, there were pictures of him in an Arsenal shirt.

“There was never good energy around him. The emergence of Tanganga and the Emerson Royal deal meant his time was up.

“He’s going to a good side in Villarreal, they are the holders of the Europa League.

“I’m just glad he hasn’t joined another Premier League club so the risk of him playing well against us isn’t there.

“He has done very well to go to Villarreal if I’m totally honest. There is no bit of me that is sad he’s gone.”

Aurier made 110 appearances for Tottenham.

He joined the club from PSG in 2017.
