Medical done: Nottingham Forest close in on 23-goal forward – reliable journalist

By Derek Smithson

Nottingham Forest are closing in on completing a deal for Hibernian forward Jason Cummings, according to a reliable journalist.

Telegraph correspondent John Percy reported on his personal Twitter account that the Midlands club are set to sign the 21-year-old in a £1million deal.

It is understood that the striker has completed his medical at the City Ground and that the final stages of the deal are now being wrapped up.

Cummings was in great form last season for Hibernian and helped them achieve promotion from the Scottish Championship.

He made 40 appearances across all competitions and scored 23 goals in return, while also chipping in with seven assists.

The youngster has only ever played for Hibs during his career and has an impressive record, despite most of it featuring outside of the Scottish top flight.

Cummings has made 149 appearances for them and scored 71 goals in return.

Football Insider verdict:

Mark Warburton should know all about the qualities of Cummings from his time in management in Rangers and he could be about to pull off a great deal for just £1million. The 21-year-old is already highly experienced and is only going to get better. He has proven that he is ready for the next step up and Forest could be the perfect platform to help him develop. The Midlands club narrowly avoided relegation from the Championship last season on the final day and will be keen for a much better year under Warburton. They could do with some extra firepower in attack to help fire them up the league and prolific goalscorer Cummings could be a hit in English football if nurtured correctly.
