Angus Gunn is set to join Stoke City from Southampton after completing a medical, Football Insider understands.

The 24-year-old is Ralph Hasenhüttl’s third-choice keeper and is now set for a temporary switch away from St. Mary’s.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that he has headed to the Bet365 Stadium after the terms of a season-long loan deal were agreed.

As reported by Football Insider, Stoke have agreed to sell Jack Butland to Crystal Palace on a permanent deal and the England goalkeeper is undergoing a medical at the Premier League club this afternoon.

The 26-year-old had been second choice behind Adam Davies at the Potters and Gunn is set to provide competition for Davies.

The German-born Wales international has kept an impressive five clean sheets in seven games this season.

Gunn had a brief stint as Hasenhüttl’s first-choice goalkeeper at Southampton that began towards the end of the 2018/19 season, the Austrian’s first campaign in charge.

In total he has made 22 Premier League appearances for the Saints, keeping five clean sheets.

However, the Norwich-born shot-stopper is yet to make a matchday squad for the club this season.

He finds himself behind first-choice Alex McCarthy and Fraser Forster, who returned from a loan spell at Celtic in the summer.

Gunn spent the 2017/18 season in the Championship on loan at Norwich City where his father, Brian Gunn, is a club legend.

He kept 15 clean sheets in 46 league games for the Canaries as they finished 14th.
