Medical today: Arsenal defender Ballard agrees Millwall move after breakthrough - Sources

Arsenal defender Daniel Ballard is undergoing a Millwall medical today after agreeing terms, Football Insider understands.

This site broke the news last Saturday (26th June) that the Northern Ireland international, 21, was in advanced talks with the south London outfit.

An Arsenal source has told Football Insider that the club have granted permission for Ballard to head to Millwall for a medical today.

He will then put pen to paper on the terms of a season-long loan move.

The Gunners are likely to include a recall clause in the deal which will allow them to terminate the loan deal in January if they desire.

The transfer will come as a big coup for Millwall, with Ballard the subject of enquiries from multiple Championship clubs this summer.

Ballard spent the 2020-21 campaign on loan at Blackpool and helped Neil Critchley’s side gain promotion to the Championship.

The centre-half made 27 starts across all competitions and played in all three of the Tangerines play-off fixtures.

Arsenal are keen for the defender, who has two years remaining on his contract at the Emirates, to get more regular first-team experience next season.

Millwall finished 11th in the Championship last term and will hope Ballard’s addition can help push them into promotion contention next year.

The eight-times Northern Ireland international is set to become Millwall’s third signing of the summer following the arrivals of Scott Malone and George Long on free transfers.
