Medical today: Tottenham ‘very active’ as they close in on second January signing after new Radu Dragusin talks – sources

Tottenham Hotspur’s move to sign Genoa defender Radu Dragusin is still alive, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking to Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, editor Wayne Veysey revealed that a move for the centre-back won’t be completed in the immediate future, but Ange Postecoglou’s side are “very active” in their pursuit.

Dragusin’s agent, Florin Manea, claimed earlier in the week his client is very happy at the Serie A club and suggested he would not be leaving in the current transfer window.

However, sources have told Football Insider that Genoa are open to selling the Romanian international and are eyeing a £25million fee.

Football Insider revealed (31 December) that Spurs are in daily communication with Dragusin’s camp to get the deal wrapped up this month, with their former director of football Fabio Paratici the driving force for the deal.

Tottenham remain in contact over a deal although their pursuit has been complicated by Napoli’s interest in the player.

Despite that, the London giants are in pole position to agree what would be a second January deal with a loan-to-buy deal for Timo Werner all agreed.

Football Insider broke the news on Saturday that the Germany striker will undergo a Tottenham medical on Sunday as he puts the finishing touches to the transfer.

Dragusin is a mainstay in Genoa’s backline and has started all of their games in all competitions this season.

He has bagged himself two goals in Serie A – a match-winning strike against Hellas Verona and the equaliser in Genoa’s 1-1 draw against Inter Milan last month.

The 21-year-old moved to Genoa for a reported £4.7million after the club triggered his release clause during his loan spell from Juventus.

The Rossoblu would now expect to fetch a significantly larger fee for Dragusin, who is keen for a move to the Premier League.

Tottenham sit fifth in the Premier League table following their 3-1 win against Bournemouth on New Year’s Eve and next face Burnley at home in the FA Cup on Friday night (5 January).
