Eibar enforcer Florian Lejeune is currently undergoing a medical with Newcastle, according to a report.
Sky Sports News HQ claimed on their official Twitter account on Monday evening that the Magpies are now close to sealing their second signing of the summer following in Christian Atsu’s foot steps after he made his loan move from Chelsea permanent.

Newcastle had confirmed on their official Twitter account earlier in the day that “incoming transfer news is expected very soon” so there could be some connection between that and Sky’s latest report about Lejeune.

The seven-times France Under-20 international only moved to Eibar last summer, but quickly established himself as one of the club’s top players as they achieved above and beyond expectations in La Liga.

He made 37 appearances across all competitions for the Spanish club, scoring his one and only goal for them in a 3-2 win over Deportivo.
The 26-year-old has played for a high number of clubs throughout his career, which included a season-long stint at Manchester City.
Football Insider Verdict
Lejeune is certainly a bit of a left-field signing as not many people can say they had heard of him before Rafa Benitez came circling. However if anyone was to have a solid understanding of La Liga, it would be the former Real Madrid boss, and the Magpies supporters should definitely but their faith in the Spaniard. Lejeune has played against some of the world’s best players at Eibar when he come to blows with the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, so that should stand him in good stead as he arrives back in England. Lejune is expected to be given a first-team role in the Magpies that needs serious investment in defence.
