Medical within hours: Leeds on the verge of goal machine deal – reliable journalist
By Danny Wright
Leeds are on the verge of completing a deal to sign Ezgjan Alioski from Swiss top-flight side Lugano, according to a reliable journalist.
Yorkshire Evening Post reporter Phil Hay claimed on his personal Twitter account on Thursday afternoon that the 25-year-old was to have a medical with the Whites within the “next 24 hours” after the signing of Samu Saiz was announced just moments earlier.
Alioski could become Leeds’ ninth signing of the summer, following Saiz, Vurnon Anita, Caleb Ekuban, Madger Gomes, Pontus Jansson, Matuesz Klich, Hadi Sacko and Felix Wiedwald in penning permanent deals with the Yorkshire giants.
Alioski proved to be a goal machine for Lugano last season, as he switched his usual full-back role for a more attacking one on the right wing by cutting inside to find the net.
In 36 appearances across all competitions, the 13-times Macedonia international scored a stunning 17 goals and showed that he is also a good team player by crafting 14 assists.
He finished as third top goal scorer in the Swiss Super League last term, helping Lugano secure qualification to the Europa League group stage despite them being tipped for relegation and finding themselves second from bottom half way through the campaign.
Football Insider Verdict
It’s very easy to see why Leeds would want Alioski. He’s proved to be a completely different animal in front of goal last season after making a drastic change to his positional play. His rise to form is similar to Gareth Bales. The Welshman started as a full-back, but as soon as he was able to express himself in attacking areas he proved to be unstoppable when cutting in from the wing and finding the net. Alioski could be that type of player in Thomas Christiansen’s side next season, and that would prove deadly with players like Chris Wood and Saiz also in the side. It’s certainly an exciting time to be a Leeds supporter and Andrea Radrizanni deserves an enormous amount of praise.
In other Leeds news, these Champions League regulars have already had their chief executive open talks with the Whites for this key senior player.
