Meltdown begins: Three matches that could ruin Leeds' season
COMMENT by Amir Mir
Leeds are ever so close to securing a top-six finish in the Championship, but with five matches remaining, they require that final push over the line.
Here, Football Insider takes a look at three matches that could ruin the club’s season which could result in them finishing outside of the play-offs.
Newcastle (April 14, St James’ Park)
This will arguably be the club’s toughest fixture to date because the Magpies are on the verge of securing promotion to the Premier League. The Whites have had an inconsistent away record and have not secured a clean sheet on their travels since their 1-0 win at Wolves in October. A point here will be valuable, defeat would get the hearts racing amongst supporters.
Burton Albion (April 22, Pirelli Stadium)

On paper, Leeds should win this game with ease, but given their away form and Burton’s ability to find the back of the net, this will be a very tricky game. Not only that, the home team will be fighting for their life as they are looking to secure safety in the second tier. Leeds will not find it too difficult to find the back of the net, but keeping out their attacking threat, will be a tough test.
Wigan (May 7, DW Stadium)
The last match of the season and a game Monk’s side want to go into having already secured a top six finish. If that is not the case then the meltdown would have surely begun. Once again another away trip and against a team that will, most likely, be fighting for their safety. On paper, a few of these matches are simple fixtures, but it is those that catch you out.
