Merson reveals Tottenham trio that will make difference v Manchester City
Former Arsenal star and current Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has said that Tottenham’s trio of missing stars will make all the difference in Saturday’s clash with Manchester City on Saturday.
Spurs will travel to the Etihad without the injured Toby Alderweireld and Victor Wanyama, both long term absentees, while the Belgian’s fellow centre back Davinson Sanchez will will sit out the final match of his three game suspension after being sent off for throwing an elbow against Watford.
Mauricio Pochettino and his men will be coming up against a City side who saw themselves break the Football League record for most consecutive wins, with the 4-0 victory over Swansea on Wednesday their 15th in a row.
Their mighty form has seen them build up an 11 point lead at the top of the table, and Merson is not expecting that Spurs will be able to put an end to that without the enforcers that will be sitting on the sidelines.
Boldly predicting a 3-1 win for City, he wrote on Sky Sports’ website: “If Tottenham had their best team out they would give them a game but I don’t think they will do it with the defenders they have out.
“Toby Alderweireld is probably the best defender in the world in my opinion and he is badly missed.

“Davinson Sanchez is out along with Victor Wanyama, so they are missing big players. Otherwise it would have been game on.”
Pochettino confirmed that Alderweireld would not be returning to action until February after scans showed the severity of the injury, while he is waiting on Wanyama to return to full fitness after his own serious injury blow.
Spurs currently sit fourth in the table after Wednesday’s 2-0 win at home to a struggling Brighton side, but are 18 points adrift of Manchester City at the top of the table.
